7/30/12

  1. Clearing out the DVR to tape the whole day's coverage on the main NBC channel.
  2. Finding eager listeners to talk over the triathlon in BB, EM, and AS at various points throughout the day.
  3. AS having the massage table out so could work on my really tight calves even though I'd only booked a chair massage.
  4. Getting our Verizon account details to be able to watch the Olympics live streams.
  5. Figuring out how to convert the text file of triathlon results into a CSV to put together some pivot charts with the data.
  6. Dinner of CSA chard sauted up with CSA onions and CSA tomato and a couple eggs turning out to be quite delicious.

7/29/12

  1. Not oversleeping for the triathlon after all, despite waking up every hour because I was so nervous that I would.
  2. Dan finding us at the boardwalk just in time before I had to go down to the beach.
  3. Finally feeling good after 2.5 miles-ish into the run and being able to speed up, finishing under my goal of 2 hours by a lot at 1:38:45!!
  4. Getting chorizo tacos from The Taco Truck for lunch.
  5. Going to see The Dark Knight Rises and using up those Showcase Cinema vouchers my mom gave me ages ago.
  6. Dan making chicken cutlets for dinner, finally sating my hunger after the race.

  1. Feeling much better on the run this morning after the ocean swim than the last time I tried to run in that area after swimming. No bike and cooler weather this time.
  2. Talking a 5-gallon pickle bucket out of the deli near the Grove to go towards making self-watering container gardens. They said I can have one every two weeks, too, since they just throw them out.
  3. Returning online purchases to the Gap and J.Crew.
  4. Getting dim sum in Flushing with my parents and walking around there afterwards with them too.
  5. Remembering to move the laundry into the dryer with enough time to finish the load before bedtime.
  6. Watching the Olympics while putting together my stuff for the triathlon in the morning.

  1. Going for my last pool swim at Stevens in the morning and feeling pretty good throughout the continuous 400yd main set.
  2. Getting a new library book onto my Kindle to have something to read on the train ride.
  3. Getting to the Hoboken station a couple minutes before the direct train to Holmdel was scheduled to leave. Just enough time to buy my ticket.
  4. Dumplings at home for a late lunch.
  5. My mom driving me to pick up my race packet in Wall.
  6. Going up to find that my mom had already turned on the A/C for the room I'd be sleeping in.

  1. Picking up the CSA for the week in person for the first time in many weeks.
  2. Grabbing some potato skins at TGIAF.
  3. Getting my rating for last quarter from SH--my best rating yet!
  4. Catching up with SN, always a fun time.
  5. Made it home on my bike right before the rain started.
  6. Dan making me a turkey burger for dinner.

  1. Working from home for the day after the late meetings the night before.
  2. Making a scallion/kale pesto to go with sauted squash for lunch. The pesto was quite good, actually!
  3. SH laughing off my disheveled appearance while working from home.
  4. Late afternoon meeting ending early.
  5. Finding a couple of my usual shows on at the gym (Criminal Minds etc.) to watch while working out.
  6. Catching up on both the bike and run workouts for the week.

  1. Getting an email back from the cafe guy in the morning that they might have those 5-gallon buckets for me to use to build some self-watering container gardens.
  2. Lunch with EM.
  3. Had a meeting in 5BB so I was able to get some freshly squeezed OJ from the juice bar.
  4. Remembering to bring the CSA veggies home.
  5. Dan starting a pot of water to boil for me to quickly make some corn for dinner.
  6. Running a good session on workflows and approval rules.

  1. Sleeping a solid 10 hours.
  2. Going to the library to return and pick up books.
  3. Talking the guy into giving me a couple pieces of fried chicken without having to waste a waffle that I wasn't going to eat.
  4. Leftover pasta fagioli and watermelon for second half of dinner after having some food at work.
  5. Talking Dan into wiping down my bike from the rain for me.
  6. Watching Breaking Bad episodes 1 and 2 of the new season with Dan. Very nice camera work.

  1. Surviving the ocean swim in the morning with the biggest waves I'd experienced so far.
  2. Dim sum with the whole family in Matawan.
  3. Coming across a group about to scope out the bike route of the triathlon too who invited me to join them.
  4. Being able to borrow a bike helmet and not worry about this being the one time I'd get into an accident. 
  5. PG giving me a ride back to Hoboken from Monmouth County.
  6. Lots of the A-Team over for dinner and going to see Pirates of Penzance.

  1. Throwing a nerf ball on the beach with my sister when it turned out that the ocean swim portion of the Ocean Grove biathlon had been canceled.
  2. Going for a run together along the boardwalk by Pier Village.
  3. Checking out garage sales with my parents.
  4. Being right about where my dad was at the King Spa when he was late to meeting us in the restaurant area (he had taken a detour and got a body scrub).
  5. Bibimbap at the spa for dinner.
  6. Talking one of the ladies out of delaying my sister’s body scrub for an extra half hour.

  1. Not being late to the airport despite the hotel's unhelpfulness in transportation to the airport.
  2. Slept for a good 5 hours on the flight to help start adjusting back to Eastern time.
  3. Finishing watching the American version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on the flight. 
  4. My dad picking me even after waiting around for 2 hours because the flight was delayed and customs took forever.
  5. Having papaya salad and dumplings when I got home from the airport.
  6. Dinner out for KS' birthday with CS/PB/DS and my sister.

  1. Getting a lot of sleep on the train rides back from Pisa to Florence and Milan.
  2. Seeing the Last Supper!
  3. Finding a 1000-piece Last Supper puzzle in the gift shop to bring back for my sister.
  4. Catching the right Malpensa Express to the airport to officially still be eligible for the free hotel shuttle.
  5. Finding payphones at the airport that accepted payment via credit card.
  6. Getting in a bike and run workout at the gym at the Park Inn hotel.

  1. JE complimenting me on the two nicer dresses I brought for these couple days at the client's office.
  2. Finding a known bug for an issue that JM was investigating.
  3. Not too much food left in the canteen for lunch but still was able to have another large slice of watermelon as my fruit option.
  4. Getting the last spot on the 6:30pm climb to the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. JE was right that it looks really cute where it is.
  5. Fitting in a quick shower at the hotel before having to meet up for dinner.
  6. Fabulous, fabulous Tuscan dinner at a restaurant in the mountains that our client brought us to. The many delicious and varied appetizers were the best part.

  1. Bringing over a bunch of stuff to leave in JM's room while we'd be in Pisa, making it easier to pack/unpack my suitcase.
  2. The cabbie having a little dog with him in the car and just keeping the dog on his laptop for the drive from the hotel to the train station.
  3. Really nice train from Milan to Florence--tons of leg room and lots of width. I was able to sleep through pretty much the whole train ride.
  4. Getting lunch vouchers from the client and finding that giant slices of watermelon were available as a fruit dessert option for our lunch.
  5. Trying a piece of steak from DB's plate at dinner.
  6. Ordering a ridiculous dessert spread.

  1. Getting a solid ~9 hours of sleep! I feel human again now.
  2. Good breakfast at the hotel, with candied bacon bits with the eggs and good tomatoes and fresh mini-mozzarella balls.
  3. Easing in to a day at the Milan office.
  4. Really nice lunch there with many different kinds of fresh cheese and cured meats. A whole fridge of different kinds of ice cream.
  5. Walking over to the canal district for a delicious dinner at a homey sort of restaurant.
  6. Really good hazelnut gelato at a shop on the way back from dinner.

  1. Getting over to JM's hotel in plenty of time before going over to the cathedral for 8am mass.
  2. Really fun bike tour of Milan that went all around the city and hit a bunch of stops that I read about in the guidebook but probably wasn't going to get to on foot.
  3. Paying the extra 5 euro to take the elevator to the top of the cathedral in the evening...was dead tired at that point.
  4. Finding that you can climb all over stuff on the terraces and see the flying buttresses up close! Gorgeously ornate.
  5. Mozzarella tasting at the department store's rooftop food court.
  6. Showering at the end of a long and sweaty day.

  1. Successfully finding my way to the Radisson Blu hotel.
  2. Going to see the frescoes at the San Maurizio church, so many of them with fairly vibrant colors for something that's so old, and you can get quite close too. Also, free.
  3. Discovering that the Civic Archaeological Museum next door had free admission until the end of August.
  4. Making it to the start of the opera at La Scala just before the singing started after hanging around for almost 2 hours to be able to pick up our tickets from the box office, dropping off JM's at her hotel, and taking the tram back to my hotel to change.
  5. Getting dinner with JM after the opera.
  6. Finding that there were still plenty of trams running to get back to my hotel, even after midnight.

  1. Getting in a swim in the morning without making Dan and CP too late in heading out.
  2. Dan dropping me off on the east side of town with my luggage.
  3. The Chase Bank folks letting me leave my luggage there so I could go back to the apartment and retrieve my phone that I'd forgotten.
  4. Getting easy-to-follow directions for how to get from the airport to my hotel for the first night.
  5. Whisking through bag check-in and security quite quickly, nice work EWR.
  6. Finishing reading Farm City while waiting to board my flight.

  1. Eggs and avocado for breakfast again.
  2. Researching self-watering container gardens made from buckets--seems quite doable!
  3. Discovering that there are plenty of edible plants that you can plant in August and for the fall, even in our area.
  4. Finishing the last of the watermelon.
  5. Getting a ton of sewing done, mostly mending but hemming shorts too.
  6. Hanging out with CP before his and Dan's trip to Quebec and RC coming over too.

  3. Getting dim sum at West Lake with my parents.
  4. My mom driving me back to Hoboken.
  5. Taking a nap to recover from waking up at 4:40am.
  6. Getting to the gym and feeling pretty good during my run and finishing it up before they closed it.

  4. Water being available at Maximeyes when I went to go pick up my new glasses and was totally dehydrated.
  5. Getting in a really good swim at the pool, I did all of the main laps in freestyle!
  6. Mostly successfully re-dying my faded hair back to purple.

  2. Dispatching of a couple updating tasks a bit faster than I had expected.
  3. Picking up an order that had been waiting for me for awhile in the Port Authority area.
  4. Weather being quite pleasant in Fort Lee when I finally made it there and waited for Dan to come pick me up since I'd missed the running group.
  5. Last of the tortilla soup for dinner.
  6. No more work for the rest of the week!

  5. Succeeding in half-running/half-walking from the J.Crew store to the library in time to pick up a stack of new books!

  1. Waking up naturally at 7:15 and being able to get an early start to the day without actually feeling all that tired at all, despite going to bed at 2am 2 nights ago and 1am the night before.
  2. Testing out the sesame bagels from Fairmount Bakery vs. St. Viateur. St. Viateur wins for me, both piping hot but Fairmount was more pretzel-like and St. Viateur had a crispy crust with a perfectly fluffy interior.
  3. Getting to the Atwater market finally while it was open and got more ice cream (chai flavor and pistachio, both well done but chai in particular), fresh strawberries, and cider liquor and ice cider.
  4. Fitting in a stop to the lobster shack place we passed on the bike tour for a lobster roll.
  5. Thanks to the free-wifi at the airport, finding that Milan has both a Park Inn and a Radisson that I can stay in during my Milan trip to finish off all the Club Carlson promos! Makes me feel better for forgetting to check for a Park Inn in Montreal.
  6. Coming home to dinner of ancho chicken tortilla soup made by Dan, quite tasty and colorful.

  1. Getting in to Notre Dame basilica in the morning and lucking upon an organist practicing.
  2. Really interesting and informative bike tour of waterside vista and architecture in Montreal.
  3. Smoked meat sandwich from Schwartz!! Delicious slightly fatty brisket.
  4. Perfect strawberry sorbet from an ice cream place next to Atwater market.
  5. Random circus act practice on our way back to the apartment. Suspended violinist, interpretive mop dance, red umbrellas, suspended fabric aerials…just magic.
  6. Feeling not sticky after showering.

  1. Feeling good during a morning run in the Mont-Royal Park with AQ.
  2. Lunch out to a brewery chain restaurant next door, got a light beer with maple whiskey and a plate of 3 different kinds of sausages.
  3. Booking the tickets for a work trip to Milan!
  4. Getting the keys to the apartment in the end, was a little worried there for awhile but turns out the owner's boyfriend was just stuck in traffic and they were both very apologetic.
  5. Yummy and affordable sushi for dinner.
  6. Having my fan with me at the Esperanza Spalding jazz concert to cool down.

  1. Deciding to sleep in and skip going to the gym to swim in the morning to recover from being up late the night before.
  2. MB bringing SET onto the bus. I won both games rather handily, still got it :)
  3. Successfully navigating my team to all the trees with riddles on the GPS activity.
  4. Not falling off any trees on the ropes course.
  5. Zip-lining!! Particularly the extra-long zip-lines at the end of the day.
  6. RC helping me fend off boredom by letting me read stuff on his phone.

  1. Having Greek yogurt and honey for breakfast in the morning, along with toasted English muffins with nutella.
  2. Getting my presentation over and done with.
  3. Not being the strongest opposing voice in the room during a somewhat intense discussion about a training project request.
  4. Getting a cab to the place for dinner.
  5. Delicious dinner, juicy and fatty lamb with fiddlehead ferns for the main course and lemon tart/crumble for dinner.
  6. Having a fun time joking around about various non-work topics at dinner.

  1. Fun offsite activity of cooking and cocktail making lesson.
  2. Taking a cab back to the hotel with a few others, avoiding the drizzly weather.
  3. Dan finding the right Office Space video to use in my product presentation.
  4. Getting Skype to work better with video chatting Dan over the low-bandwidth connection.
  5. Feeling pretty good on my run in the hotel's gym.
  6. Fixing up the rest of the slides and adding in light touches of animation fairly quickly.

  1. PD giving me a call to let me know that our original flight had been canceled so that I could get myself booked on an afternoon flight instead of the 9pm flight the airline had automatically re-booked me on.
  2. Getting to the airport with plenty of time to check my bag, go through security, and grab a bite to eat.
  3. Dozing a bit on the flight while we were stuck on the tarmac for ages waiting to take off.
  4. Free wi-fi at the hotel, and a really nice room (king bed!) to boot.
  5. Scoping out the walk to the office here, and it's quite close and hard to miss with a big sign on the building.
  6. Video chatting with Dan for a bit.

  1. Cooked up garlic scapes and squash from CSA with eggs for breakfast.
  2. Lying around reading for most of the day.
  3. Getting a call from the Verizon store in Hazlet that someone actually turned in my Droid that they found on the beach!
  4. Watching the Olympic trials for diving.
  5. Cooking down the chard (with a dash of nutmeg) to go with a few of Dan's meatballs for dinner.
  6. Renting Breaking Dawn Part I off Amazon and finally watching it (why are its special effects so terrible?!).

  1. Everyone at the ocean swim practice being really encouraging, with one lifeguard swimming alongside me the entire way and not feeling too bad for the distance, either!
  2. Getting a bit of a bike ride and short run afterwards.
  3. Making the train to NYC in plenty of time.
  4. Hanging out with DC in the afternoon and going to see the new Pixar movie, Brave using AMC Gold tickets and gift cards.
  5. Finding Manic Panic at the Ricky's in Hoboken.
  6. Watching random movies on TV with Dan in the evening and then later The Life of Brian.

  1. Unpacking the Big Sur stuff and packing an overnight bag pretty quickly.
  2. Going swimming at Stevens in the morning.
  3. Running over the windows with my coworkers to get a great view of the lightning in the afternoon thunderstorm.
  4. Successfully retrieving my Zappos package of all the wide width minimalist running shoes that they sell a bit earlier than it would have taken if processed normally .
  5. Some random guy holding a door to a stairwell open for me when I was carrying the large Zappos box back to my desk while he was still on the phone but then just went back inside, so he wasn't actually going anywhere himself.
  6. Red duck curry and watermelon for dinner.

  1. Lunch with AJ/MG/RS. Haven't seen RS in ages, she was looking really happy and relaxed.
  2. Getting my work email inbox down to just 1 email.
  3. First CSA pickup (for me) of the season, which included strawberries.
  4. Completing a brick (bike ride followed by a run) at the gym.
  5. A guy at the NYSC Hoboken figuring out why they couldn't find me by name and setting it up so I could just swing by to get my official membership card on the way home.
  6. Not that hungry for dinner, so just had a mango and some watermelon, which was quite refreshing.

  3. Getting my accomplishments before the quarter written up in time for my manager to take it to pre-calibration.

  5. Realizing I should get dinner from work since I didn't have anything at home.
  6. Getting to the library just in time before they closed to return two books I finished last week.

  5. Lounging around watching TV and catching up on the Mad Men season finale.
  6. Seeing Dan after being away for so long.

  2. Getting to see the apartment in Hayward, with my mom good-naturedly putting up with my sister and me making fun of some of her tics.
  3. Seeing cousin C briefly when we made a stop at the Stanford campus.
  4. Bringing everyone to see the main campus for a bit.
  5. Getting to the airport in plenty of time.
  6. Staying awake on the flight to help deal with the jet lag coming back.

  1. Not having to wake up early with not having to be anywhere until 10:30.
  2. Yummy dim sum brunch in Oakland.
  3. Walking a bit in Muir Woods and admiring the enormously tall redwoods.
  4. Dinner at a Tibetan place in Berkeley where the food was quite good, particularly the vegetable curry.
  5. Getting an e-card from Mama G to wish Dan and me a happy 1 year wedding anniversary. So sweet of her.
  6. Pre-packing a lot of my stuff so I'd be less rushed in the morning when we checked out.

  1. Going for a mani-pedi by myself in the morning. Gel manicure is awesome, even I couldn't ruin it before leaving the salon.
  2. Really nice and responsive bikes for the urban winery bike tour in Oakland.
  3. Lovely picnic lunch in a park by the water, with yummy homemade coleslaw. I never used to like coleslaw much before.
  4. Getting to the wedding venue just in time before the ceremony started.
  5. Seeing JW get married!
  6. Finding out what had happened to my phone...sucks that it was run over by a car, but nice to know for sure at least.

  1. Jellyfish exhibits and wild otters in the bay at Monterey Aquarium.
  2. Noticing the right stop to get out and see the Lone Cypress along 17-Mile Drive.
  3. My mom finding a little Taiwanese restaurant in San Jose to get a late lunch.
  4. Family not objecting too much to having to put up with the small rooms of the Hotel Durant in Berkeley.
  5. Getting dinner with 7th uncle and his family, including meeting cousin C's fiance B, at the Burma Superstar in Oakland.
  6. Hanging out with them some more after dinner in the hotel lobby.

  1. Not being too late to sea kayaking in the morning with some unexpected traffic along the way.
  2. Going sea kayaking and seeing some otters and other wildlife.
  3. My mom having a backup memory card for my camera after mine got filled up.
  4. Lunch at the little deli near Hearst Castle.
  5. Making it to the Hearst Castle for a tour despite my mom being worried about driving back through Big Sur before it got dark out.
  6. Many enormous elephant seals at the Piedras Blancs rookery.

  1. Quite a good breakfast at Treebones, with scrambled eggs and homemade granola to go with their yogurt.
  2. Finding our way to Limekiln park and relaxing on their warm, stony beach to eat lunch and play cards.
  3. Easy trails at Limekiln into the forest.
  4. Seeing some condors at a spot a few miles further north along the highway.
  5. The fig, arugula, and goat cheese pizza I ordered for dinner being the cheapest and tastiest thing on the menu at Treebones.
  6. Hanging out in the hot tub and heated pool with my sister and playing cards some more.

6/12/12

  1. Stopping at a farmer's market near Monterey and buying a ton of cheap fruit, including some watermelons that my dad came up with the idea to get and crack in the back right there for us to eat. Incredibly delicious and refreshing.
  2. Gorgeous drive to Big Sur, stopping frequently to get out for the view and take pictures. 
  3. Making it to Nepenthe for lunch, where the soup was really good.
  4. Easy hike to McWay Falls.
  5. Checking in at Treebones and finding our yurt to be enormous and comfortable.
  6. Great picnic dinner of sandwiches from deli meat and avocados we'd picked up in the morning.

  1. Getting a decent, cheap, hot breakfast at Safeway.
  2. Getting to Neal Vineyards in plenty of time.
  3. Neal's head winemaker, Gove, being a great fount of knowledge about winemaking and really nice about answering all of our questions.
  4. Lunch of tacos at a fairly authentic looking Mexican grocery store, La Luna Market & Taqueria.
  5. Getting a horchata popsicle from the store, all cold and cinnamon-y and milky.
  6. Free internet at computers in the lobby of the hotel.

  1. Finally getting to Alcatraz, the one main tourist thing I'd wanted to do in SF but hadn't been able to make it work previously.
  2. Sunny clear weather, SF is much better when it's sunny. View from the top of Lombard St. was so clear.
  3. A stranger getting up to give me the camera case that I'd dropped while getting off the trolley.
  4. Resting in the Japanese tea garden with iced green tea and mochi rice cake snacks.
  5. Great dinner at Aux Delices.
  6. Going running in the hotel gym with my stride feeling lighter, alternating between running and walking.

  1. Dan driving me down to Holmdel and then helping us by ferrying the minivan back from JFK to Holmdel.
  2. Fitting my extra stuff into my mom's larger suitcase.
  3. Learning that you can proactively opt to gate check your carry-on bag and not have to attempt to lift it up an fit into an overhead bin if you were only carrying it on to avoid the fee for checking bags.
  4. The saltwater duck and shrimp rolls that my mom packed for us to eat.
  5. Buying an episode of Game of Thrones to watch on the plane.
  6. Playing cards with my sister on the plane when I got too utterly bored.

  1. Lunch with AJ and MG for the second day in a row.
  2. Packed up my desk for the move that will happen while I'm out quite quickly.
  3. Succeeding at writing a query to figure out which client networks we have.
  4. Friendlier sales guy at the Run by Footlocker store than at JackRabbit sports.
  5. Turkey burgers with sausage for dinner and bell peppers in the fridge, using up the last pita pocket.
  6. Finding wide width minimalist running shows on Zappos after striking out at running shoe stores in Manhattan.
