  6. Quenching my thirst with the orange juice RC had bought in anticipation of my visit.

  1. Packing pretty quickly in the morning.
  2. Not needing to water my plants since it had just rained the day before.
  3. Realizing that picking up PDX Carpet socks at the airport is a great solution for host gifts. Who doesn’t need more socks?
  4. Having lunch on the waterfront with JG and SE.
  5. uberPool to get to RC’s place from SFO.
  6. Getting Thai food for dinner in the Sunset before the restaurant closed.

  1. Chickpea bowl at Sonny Bowl for lunch.
  2. Skipping going to the gym to get home instead.
  3. Making a couple biscuits to go with Dan’s chicken stew for dinner.
  4. Getting a load of laundry done before I have to travel again.
  5. Knitting on my vest more and catching up on Once Upon a Time.
  6. Checking in for my Alaska Airlines flight and snagging a window seat in one of the rows with extra legroom but still the ability to stash a bag under the seat in front of me.

  1. Waking up feeling pretty well-rested.
  2. Lunch at Mi Mero Mole with the team and discovering the taco plate with a salad.
  3. Quick meeting of Technical Book Club participants to decide on our next book.
  4. Not taking too long after work to clean up several blog posts and schedule them for publishing.
  5. Getting a pretty full workout in at the gym since there wasn’t bar trivia.
  6. Going to bed pretty quickly after coming home and having dinner.

  5. Picking up knitting on my gray vest again, despite a few misreadings of the directions here and there.
  6. Dan making chicken stew for dinner that was really tasty and filling.

  6. MW's roommate being out so I had a whole room and proper bed to myself.

  1. Getting to finally give the poop emoji sticker I'd picked up in Seattle at the holiday market to tenderlove, who remembered me from ArrrrCamp!
  2. Going out to get pho for lunch with a group of women I'd met throughout the conference.
  3. A couple more people coming up to me to say they liked my talk yesterday!
  4. AMAZINGLY WISE AND INSPIRING Women Who Code event with Sandi Metz!!!
  5. Getting myself to the fancy hotel gym for at least a bit.
  6. Talking to Dan for awhile on the phone, first time we really got to talk since I left Portland.

4/21/15

  1. Finding DC in the morning at the keynote.
  2. Skipping the second morning session to take some quiet time by myself before my talk.
  3. Being pleased with how my talk went! A handful of fumbling moments but I recovered just fine from them, hit 29 minutes in length, got good questions and positive feedback from people afterwards, and people chuckled along with and appreciated the Doctor Who references.
  4. Doing a good job of introducing myself to and meeting new people today, like HHH about Ada Academy and AW about her knitting machine hacking.
  5. Amazingly inspiring closing keynote by Sara Chipps, with a dancing drones demonstration by some high school students!
  6. Going out for dinner with DC/NT/CD/MP/R at a German beer garden restaurant.

  1. My AirBnB hostess giving me a ride to the airport.
  2. Sleeping for pretty much the entire flight from Richmond to Atlanta.
  3. Getting a pack of Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets to tide me over until dinner. Actual chicken chunks!
  4. Quite good wi-fi in my hotel room.
  5. Enjoying meeting people at the Guides/Scholarships mixer and at the speaker dinner.
  6. Delicious food at Alma Cocina for the speaker dinner.

  1. Going back to sleep for a couple more hours in the morning after waking up inexplicably at 7:30.
  2. Meeting up with SD before he left for NYC.
  3. Bringing our food over to CC/TC's hotel to share it with them and see them again.
  4. Finding a coffee shop with decent wifi and getting into a groove for working on my slides.
  5. Talking to my sister over the phone for awhile.
  6. Restarting the router fixing the wifi at my AirBnB.

  1. Really helpful and competent bra fitting lady at a nearby lingerie shop.
  2. Perfect timing for getting an Uber to get to the brewery tour start.
  3. Swapping stories about behind-the-scenes stuff from our college days with CC/MB/EN.
  4. Right amount of drunk for the bachelorette party--silly and relaxed (and probably loud), but still upright.
  5. Delicious potato gnocchi and roasted bone marrow at dinner.
  6. My AirBnB hostess not minding EN coming back with me to hang out for a couple hours before her bus back to NYC.

  2. Getting hot chocolate with MM at Stumptown and catching up with her.
  3. Picking up a new pretty dress at Nordstrom to possibly wear for the wedding.
  4. Getting myself to keep increasing my sprint speeds by 0.5mph for each interval.
  5. Dan coming out to pick me up from the gym and give me a ride home with all my random stuff.
  6. Giving Dan an orientation to my plants for watering while I'm gone.

  1. Dressing in my most country outfit, chambray shirtdress with short cowboy boots.
  2. Hanging out in the library to get work done while listening to Garth Brooks.
  3. Getting through another practice run for my talk, with more good feedback.
  4. Timing it perfectly for getting a burrito for dinner from the food carts, before Dan came to pick me up.
  5. Having a really fun time at the concert! Particularly when Trisha Yearwood broke out the middle school dance classic, "How Do I Live."
  6. Getting home pretty quickly after the concert.

  5. Perfect timing to catch a 15 bus back home.
  6. Rousing myself off the couch to go to the gym and finish the rest of the workout I’d started yesterday.

  1. Sleeping in to catch up on sleep finally.
  2. Making the rest of the dumplings and a couple open-faced grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch.
  3. Getting myself to the gym still to at least get the cardio portion of the workout done.
  4. Enough light out when I got home to tend to my plants for a bit.
  5. Reading A Stranger to Command throughout the evening.
  6. Watching Mad Men after Dan got home.

  1. Getting in early to work and having breakfast there for the first time in a couple weeks.
  2. Finding an abandoned Snapware container with glass Pyrex bottom to appropriate for transporting my lunch in.
  3. Celebratory lunch at Bailey’s for EH’s promotion.
  4. Having time to keep converting the code snippets on my slides over and clean them up more.
  5. Practice talk going over pretty well! Smoother than I had expected, but ended right at 28min and got plenty of good feedback.
  6. Deciding to stay in for the night rather than go to the gym and keep reading Crown Duel.

  1. Going to a knitting lunch for the first time in a few weeks.
  2. Getting a tip from the others that there are plugins to help with copying over code as text but with syntax highlighting still.
  3. Succeeding in writing a Selenium test in less than an hour.
  4. Staying late in the office to keep working on my slides.
  5. Having enough extra lunch to have a portion for dinner while I was still at the office.
  6. Dan coming by to give me a ride home.

  1. Getting myself out the door in 3 minutes.
  2. Interesting conversation about engineering management at lunch.
  3. Successfully updating the agent for my sample local Java app.
  4. Catching a 33 just in time to not have to wait long for the 15, even with going back up to bring my leftovers home with me.
  5. Getting a load of laundry done in the evening.
  6. Making steady progress on building out my talk.

  1. Getting myself to the gym in the morning and finishing the whole workout in time to catch a bus to the office to still be on time for standup.
  2. Going out for lunch with RC.
  3. Getting the dirty fries at Lardo.
  4. Getting my test environment setting up and finding that the same problems were still there.
  5. Giving a 5 min version of my Ask vs. Guess Cultures talk at the Ruby meetup.
  6. Reheating some of my leftovers for dinner.

  1. Waking up early enough and then lounging in bed for a few hours.
  2. Partly sunny day, to be able to check the spots around the house that would get enough sunlight for plants.
  3. Dan showing a few of his spots in NE, like where he gets the Spanish chorizo needed for the corn soup and the massive music store.
  4. Resisting the temptation to get working on the plants immediately and still going to the gym.
  5. Plenty of light left to get the containers set up yet, though no planting yet.
  6. Catching up on watching Call the Midwife for free on the PBS website.

  1. Getting lunch with KY and EA.
  2. Trying out the Ethiopian food cart at the big carts.
  3. Getting a thorough overview of the different agent types from BM and starting to hold them clearer in my head for the first time.
  4. People reassuring me that the meeting I had to run was fine.
  5. Staying late at the office to be prepared for Monday and not have to come in any earlier than I usually do.
  6. Making dumplings for dinner, and later a grilled cheese sandwich when I was still a bit hungry.

  1. Making it in mostly on time for the 9am meeting.
  2. Getting awesome news from my boss!
  3. Talking to JD and feeling reassured.
  4. Burger with pastrami at Tilt for lunch with my team.
  5. Getting my whole workout in at the gym, including making up cardio I missed last time.
  6. Dan assembling dinner for me.

4/1/15

  1. Not having to get in by 9 for the first time this week.
  2. Getting compliments on my efficiency in running the Q&A, which ended on time.
  3. Timing it well to catch a bus from the incident response team meeting over to the canning swap.
  4. Smaller group than usual at the canning swap so it wasn't as overwhelming as it's been before.
  5. Picking up several interesting things at the swap, including fermented long beans, and getting rid of my excess of plum canned goods.
  6. Mostly flat bike ride home.
